Kindergarteners will improve their understanding of key language and vocabulary skills with engaging hands-on center activities. Each of the 12 centers focuses on one skill aligned to kindergarten Common Core language standards in a format that is accessible and motivating for all types of learners.
 
 These portable language centers help teachers to:

• support kinesthetic and visual learners
• provide differentiated practice of language and vocabulary skills
• offer a quality center activity
• review or reinforce skills
• informally assess a students understanding of concepts

 
The 12 centers cover the following Conventions of Standard English and Vocabulary Acquisition and Use skills:

• Using frequently occurring nouns
• Using frequently occurring action verbs
• Forming regular plural nouns orally by adding /s/ or /es/
• Understanding and using question words
• Using the most frequently occurring prepositions
• Capitalizing the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I
• Using end punctuation
• Writing the letters for consonants and short-vowel sounds and spelling simple words
• Determining the meaning of multiple-meaning words and phrases based on kindergarten reading and content
• Using the most frequently occurring inflections and affixes as a clue to the meaning of an unknown word
• Sorting common objects into categories to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent
• Demonstrating understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites

 
Each easy-to-assemble center provides a hands-on activity with a written practice activity, as well as:

• correlations and targeted skill
• full-color center mats and task cards
• an overview with lesson objectives
• a student direction page that explains the center activity
• a center checklist to record each students progress
